Catherine Marie Hernandez

Catherine Marie Hernandez is a proud dyslexic, ADHD writer who likes to multitask. She’s been able to use her abilities to become a better writer. While her dyslexia can be burdensome at times, it has been her greatest advantage in imagining her worlds as if they were right there in front of her. With full days, she depends on her hyper-focus and bursts of energy to help her write whenever there’s some free time.

She grew up reading fantasy and watching science fiction. Her mind was molded by magic and complex stories like The Tortall Universe, The Lord of the Rings, and  The Wheel of Time, while her visuals were flooded with the amazing technologies of Star Wars, Star Trek, and Stargate.  While she’d written since she was a child, it wasn’t until college that she started to take her writing seriously. Having studied anthropology at Plattsburgh State, Catherine found her love for the morbid and strange behaviors of the Victorian Era. Her fascination for science fiction and history led her to the steampunk subgenre. It came to her fingertips and out onto the page in no time. In her free time, she pays homage to her childhood by trying her hand at creating her own space opera.

Catherine found her love for teaching people to write working with children from the YMCA school programs. Every November, in honor of NaNoWriMo, she challenges the students to write short stories. She teaches them to create worlds and characters and then takes the time to read every story they bring before her. Her skills with them led her to teach teens and adults how to build fantastical stories. With her passion for the craft of writing growing, Catherine took a chance in 2021. She received the Three Story Method Editing Certification and established Scribe’s Pen LLC.

Catherine grew up in New York City and then, after 9-11, moved to the countryside. She currently lives about an hour outside of the city and still refers to it as Upstate New York. She writes for a local newspaper, Lake Champlain Weekly, where her articles have won second place for Best Personality Profile from the New York Press Association in 2023. During her free time, she writes her steampunk novels and hopes to publish them in 2023. Catherine hopes to one day be able to give back to the community by creating a scholarship program for those who have dyslexia and ADHD with the funds she makes from her editing and book sales.
